The Yobe State House of Assembly has directed ministries, departments, agencies and local governments flagged in the state’s 2025 audit reports to appear before its Public Accounts Committee and respond to the issues raised.
Speaker of the Assembly, Chiroma Buba Mashio, issued the directive while opening the committee’s review of the 2025 state and local government audit reports at the Assembly’s conference hall.
Mashio said affected government bodies must provide accurate information and relevant financial records to enable lawmakers to conduct a comprehensive review of their accounts.
“The annual Public Accounts Committee (PAC) session is a constitutional mandate aimed at strengthening public financial institutions and ensuring that resources available to the state and local governments are utilised in accordance with approved budgets and financial regulations for the benefit of the people,” he said.
The Speaker said the Assembly remained committed to transparency and accountability in the management of Yobe State’s finances.
He also praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for what he described as a cordial working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Bulama Bukar, said the committee’s annual scrutiny of government accounts had contributed to Yobe’s recognition for accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources.
Bukar also commended the state and local government Auditors-General for submitting their annual audit reports to the Assembly on time.
He said their work remained an important part of the legislature’s oversight of public finances.
