ABUJA (DGR News) — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he regularly asks his wife to pray that President Bola Tinubu continues to support the FCT Administration, describing presidential backing as a key factor in delivering government projects.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Water Supply Network to Bwari Satellite Town in Bwari Area Council, where he highlighted the administration’s infrastructure achievements and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling its development agenda.
The minister said the project marked the 50th officially commissioned project under the current FCT Administration, adding that more projects are scheduled for completion before the end of the year.
“This is the 50th official commissioning of projects. I’m referring to officially commissioned projects, not the unofficial ones. By God’s grace, before January next year, we will commission another 10 projects before we begin campaigns,” Wike said.
Reflecting on his experience as both a former governor and minister, Wike said effective governance depends significantly on the confidence and support of the President.
According to him, no minister can perform optimally without the backing of the country’s leader.
“I have served as a governor and as a minister before. From that experience, I know that if you do not have the support of the President, it becomes very difficult to perform. That support is essential,” he said.
Wike also shared a personal insight, saying his wife regularly prays for him and that one of his constant requests is for her to pray that President Tinubu continues to stand behind the FCT Administration.
The minister described himself as someone who keeps his own prayers simple.
“Every morning, I tell my wife to continue praying because she prays much better than I do. My own prayer is simply that God should allow me to return home safely each day,” he said.
“I always ask her to pray that Mr President will continue to support us and not turn away from the FCT Administration.”
He credited Tinubu’s support with enabling the administration to execute major infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
“The President has given the FCT all the support needed to change the narrative. In return, we are determined not to disappoint him. We will continue working to ensure residents of the FCT enjoy the benefits of good governance,” Wike added.
The minister said the primary responsibility of government is to improve the welfare of citizens, arguing that public satisfaction ultimately reflects the success of any administration.
According to him, when people experience positive changes in their daily lives, confidence in government also grows.
“When the people are happy, those in government will also be happy. But when citizens are unhappy, leaders cannot truly be satisfied. Governance is about improving lives and making things better, and that is what President Bola Tinubu’s administration is working to achieve,” Wike said.
The inauguration of the Bwari water supply project forms part of a broader infrastructure drive by the FCT Administration, which says it intends to complete and commission additional development projects before the end of the year.
