The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the unrecognized Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was taken into custody after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest when he failed to appear before the court for his scheduled arraignment.
According to court documents, Adeyemi was expected to answer to an eight-count charge brought against him by the police. The charges include allegations of forgery, fraud, impersonation, and other related offences.
He, alongside other defendants named in the case, was absent during the court proceedings, prompting the judge to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
Investigators allege that Adeyemi falsely claimed to be the Director-General of the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an entity authorities have identified as not being a legitimate government agency.
The police accused the suspects of using forged documents and false representations in connection with the alleged activities of the organisation.
Following his arrest, Adeyemi is expected to be produced before the Federal High Court in Abuja to face the charges filed against him.
The case forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to crack down on individuals accused of impersonating government officials and operating organisations under false claims of federal authority.
The Federal High Court is expected to continue hearing the matter once the defendant is formally arraigned.
