First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has expressed hope that improvements in Nigeria will make life more comfortable by the time she leaves the Presidential Villa in 2031, pointing to airport developments and easier travel as examples.
She spoke in Abuja on Friday at the inauguration of the headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots organisation campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Remi Tinubu said she wanted to experience the benefits of the country’s development as an older woman after leaving office.
“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.
She cited changes at airports as an indication of progress, expressing a desire for Nigerians to travel more conveniently and spend less time getting through airport processes.
The First Lady also mocked those she believes have overlooked the changes, suggesting they needed special glasses to recognise them. She called the joke “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses” and referred to it as “JigiBola”.
The event also served as a campaign activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Remi Tinubu formally opened the movement’s Abuja headquarters and dedicated the inauguration to her husband’s re-election campaign.
She said the centre was being commissioned “to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027.”
