The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists against fraudulent messages claiming recipients have committed traffic offences and directing them to suspicious websites.
The ministry said the messages were intended to deceive members of the public into revealing personal and banking details or making payments through unauthorised platforms.
In a public advisory, the ministry urged motorists to disregard unsolicited traffic-related messages and avoid clicking links whose authenticity cannot be established.
It also cautioned against online platforms offering supposed discounts on traffic penalties, stressing that the Lagos State Government does not provide discounts on statutory traffic fines through its platforms.
According to the ministry, approved traffic penalties are fixed and payments should only be made through officially authorised government channels.
Motorists who want to confirm traffic violation notices or check the status of their vehicles were advised to use the Lagos State Government’s verified online platforms.
The ministry also encouraged residents to report suspicious messages and websites and to avoid sharing sensitive information with unverified operators.
It reiterated that official government channels should be used for all enquiries and transactions relating to traffic violations and penalties.
