The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged members to remain calm after its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, was omitted from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Yusif Fasaha, said in a statement issued in Kano that the omission was not caused by the party and that INEC had attributed the error to a computer glitch.
Fasaha said the commission had promised to correct the issue and publish an updated list containing Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s name.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.
“We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it,” he said.
He appealed to party members to remain calm, expressing confidence that the candidate’s name would be included in a revised list by Monday.
The NDC spokesman maintained that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had met the requirements for the election and that the party had completed the necessary processes within the stipulated timeframe.
He added that the party would continue engaging relevant authorities to resolve the matter.
The omission followed INEC’s release of a list containing 17 governorship candidates and their running mates from various political parties.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf was listed as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Murtala Sule-Garo named as his running mate.
