Peter Obi’s media office has accused the Anambra State Government of targeting the former governor politically instead of focusing on the state’s challenges.
The criticism followed a statement by the state government urging voters, including All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) supporters, to reject Obi.
In a statement on Monday, spokesman for Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Idris Zekeri Jnr., described the campaign against Obi as a distraction and called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to focus on governance.
Zekeri questioned the administration’s response to flooding and disaster preparedness, alleging that warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency were not adequately acted upon.
He also criticised the government over roads, erosion, waste management, education and urban development, while arguing that the administration should focus on service delivery.
The Obi camp further alleged that the state government had mobilised more than 500 online operatives to attack the former governor, with plans to expand the network to 1,000. The allegation was not independently substantiated in the statement, and no response from the state government was included.
“Instead of obsessing over Obi, the governor should use those hours to tour Anambra and see how state funds are being wasted on roads that crumble while construction is still ongoing,” Zekeri said.
The media office also cited public receptions for Obi in the state as evidence of his continued grassroots support.
It urged political and community leaders to encourage the Soludo administration to prioritise governance and public welfare over political exchanges with the former governor.
