National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused President Bola Tinubu of financing his path to the presidency and entering office without adequately studying Nigeria’s problems.
Baba-Ahmed made the claims during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.
“He single-handedly bought his way into power. He could quite possibly be the only president who campaigned for and paid for his campaign to become president,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He claimed Tinubu largely financed his own 2023 presidential campaign rather than relying on financial contributions from supporters.
“Tinubu is the only president who people didn’t give billions because he had his own money,” he said. “He literally bought his own way into the Villa, and he funded his campaign.”
Baba-Ahmed also criticised Tinubu’s preparation for office, arguing that the President should have developed a deeper understanding of the circumstances behind Nigeria’s challenges before taking power.
“He should have understood how this country got to where we are. I can understand that he was sworn in on May 29 and didn’t have time to study,” he said.
The PRP chairman also linked his criticism to Tinubu’s well-known “Emi Lokan” political slogan, which translates from Yoruba as “It is my turn.”
“Maybe that was why he said, ‘Emi Lokan,’” Baba-Ahmed said.
Baba-Ahmed did not provide evidence during the remarks to substantiate his claim that Tinubu personally financed his entire presidential campaign.
