Beninese forward Merveille Akinocho has secured a move to Spanish side Villarreal CF after impressing for Nigerian academy Beyond Limits in the Creative Championship League.
Beyond Limits confirmed the transfer on Tuesday, announcing that the striker had signed a long-term contract with the La Liga club.
Akinocho scored 12 goals and provided three assists for the Ikenne-based academy in the Creative Championship League last season.
The forward is expected to begin his spell in Spain with Villarreal’s under-19 side, where he will continue his development before seeking a pathway into the club’s senior setup.
His progression could also open opportunities to compete in youth tournaments, including the UEFA Youth League.
Akinocho had reportedly attracted Villarreal’s interest before waiting until he turned 18 to complete the move.
Beyond Limits celebrated the transfer in a statement, describing it as a new step in the striker’s career on the European football stage.
