President Bola Tinubu arrived in Kaduna on Saturday for the All Progressives Congress’ formal launch of its 2027 presidential campaign, amid heightened security and traffic restrictions across the city.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and his wife, Nana, also arrived for the event, which brought together APC governors, party leaders, elected officials and supporters at the Kaduna Township Stadium.
Those who received Tinubu at the airport included APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, campaign Director-General Abdul’aziz Yari and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Shettima’s arrival was confirmed in a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, who described Kaduna as the starting point for the ruling party’s nationwide campaign.
The statement said the campaign would present the administration’s “Renewed Hope 2.0” agenda and showcase its achievements ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Security preparations were intensified before the flag-off, with personnel from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and Kaduna State Vigilance Service deployed across strategic locations.
Armed officers and plain-clothes operatives manned major roundabouts and roads leading to the stadium. Muhammadu Buhari Way, formerly known as WAFF Road, was blocked ahead of the expected movement of the presidential convoy.
The Ahmadu Bello Stadium roundabout was also secured by soldiers and police officers as restrictions disrupted traffic across parts of the metropolis.
The resulting congestion stretched from Junction Road to Ahmadu Bello Way, affecting movement as the city prepared to host the ruling party’s campaign launch.
