President Bola Tinubu used the All Progressives Congress’ 2027 presidential campaign launch in Kaduna on Saturday to shift responsibility for Nigeria’s hunger and poverty to his political opponents, while defending his administration’s record.
Addressing supporters at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, Tinubu accused his critics of creating the economic hardships they now condemn and said his government was working to eliminate them.
“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.
Tinubu also pointed to regular salary payments as evidence of his administration’s performance and praised governors in the ruling party for their work.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” he said.
The rally also gave the President an opportunity to appeal to Kaduna voters to support his bid for a second term. He recalled their backing in the previous presidential election and thanked them for helping him secure victory.
“You gave me joy to remember the victory you gave me to become president. I come again to thank you,” he said.
Tinubu urged voters to renew his mandate, pledging to pursue prosperity, continuity, progress and development.
He also spoke about the country’s future and addressed Nigerian children, describing his administration’s commitment to them as a promise. However, the available transcript does not contain the complete statement.
The Kaduna gathering marked the APC’s formal launch of its presidential campaign for the 2027 general election, as the party began its nationwide effort to secure another term for Tinubu.
