The Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum has expressed condolences to the families of 32 military personnel who died in a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Chairman of the forum and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Yahaya, also commiserated with President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Air Force and the Armed Forces over the incident.
In a statement on Tuesday by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, Yahaya described the deaths as a major loss to the country, saying the personnel died in the line of duty.
He commended the Federal Government’s response to the crash, including the order for a comprehensive investigation and the deployment of search-and-rescue teams.
Yahaya also praised Tinubu for declaring three days of national mourning and ordering the national flag to be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
The governor extended his condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, as well as the families and colleagues of the victims.
He urged Nigerians to continue praying for members of the Armed Forces who face risks while carrying out their duties.
“We pray Almighty God to grant repose to the souls of the fallen heroes and give their families, colleagues and the entire Armed Forces the strength and fortitude to bear this monumental loss,” Yahaya said.
