The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming that only one dialysis machine is operational at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando.
Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said on Monday that all eight machines at the hospital’s Dialysis Centre are functional.
He explained that six machines are used for general dialysis patients, while two are reserved for patients living with HIV or hepatitis in line with infection prevention and control guidelines.
“The Dialysis Centre at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando has 8 dialysis machines, and all 8 are working,” Abayomi said.
The commissioner said the centre begins treatment from 6am and continues until all patients scheduled for the day have been attended to, with operations sometimes extending until midnight.
According to him, the facility handles about 200 dialysis sessions monthly and has a dedicated standby generator to support uninterrupted service.
Abayomi said the extended operating hours were designed to ensure that patients requiring dialysis are not turned away because of capacity constraints.
He added that residents could also receive dialysis treatment at other government-owned facilities, including Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state government was developing additional dialysis centres in other parts of Lagos to improve access to treatment.
He reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to expanding access to essential healthcare services across the state.
