The University of Calabar has announced the suspension of admissions into three health-related programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Dr Mrs Chukwuka Icha, and made available through the institution’s Public Relations Unit, admissions into Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, and Medical Laboratory Science will not be conducted for the upcoming academic session.
The university advised all candidates who selected UNICAL as their first-choice institution for any of the affected programmes to immediately begin the process of changing their institution through the nearest office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
According to the statement, prospective students have until the end of July 2026 to complete the change-of-institution process.
The management clarified that the development is not unique to UNICAL, noting that three other universities are also affected by similar restrictions.
While the institution did not disclose the specific reason for the suspension, it urged candidates, parents and members of the public to rely solely on official information from the university and relevant regulatory authorities.
The university also warned against misinformation and unverified reports circulating on social media regarding the affected programmes.
Applicants were encouraged to closely monitor official updates from both UNICAL and JAMB and take the necessary steps promptly to avoid missing the deadline for changing their institution of choice.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to keeping prospective students informed through official channels and advised candidates to seek clarification directly from the institution whenever necessary.
