The United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC UK) has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of a campaign council tasked with coordinating diaspora mobilisation and support for the party.
The council was inaugurated in the United Kingdom at the weekend as the party’s UK chapter moved to strengthen its campaign structure ahead of the elections. Its responsibilities include mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and working toward victory for APC candidates contesting elections across Nigeria.
The APC UK leadership said the new campaign structure would serve as part of its broader effort to engage Nigerians in the diaspora and coordinate support for the party ahead of 2027.
The chapter said it would work with the APC leadership and the Presidential Campaign Council in Nigeria to communicate the party’s message to Nigerians and mobilise support for its candidates, including at the grassroots.
Olumuyiwa Adesua was inaugurated as Director-General of the APC UK 2027 Campaign Council, while Feyisayo Ajayi took up the position of Secretary.
The remaining positions and responsibilities within the council are expected to be assigned at a forthcoming meeting of the campaign body, according to a statement issued by APC UK Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ajisola.
Ajisola described the inauguration as an important stage in the chapter’s preparations for the 2027 elections. He said the council would be responsible for strategic mobilisation, engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora, campaign coordination and efforts to build grassroots support for the party.
The APC UK leadership congratulated members appointed to the new council and expressed confidence that their combined efforts would strengthen the party’s campaign ahead of the elections.
The chapter said it expected the campaign council to contribute to what it described as a successful campaign and a decisive victory for Tinubu and other APC candidates across Nigeria in 2027.
The declaration reflects the party chapter’s stated objective of building an organised diaspora campaign structure well ahead of the general elections. Rather than limiting its activities to the UK, APC UK said the council would coordinate with party structures and stakeholders in Nigeria as it seeks to mobilise support for candidates across the country.
For the newly appointed Director-General, the assignment represents a responsibility to serve the party and its members while contributing to its electoral campaign.
Adesua reaffirmed his commitment to the APC after his inauguration and pledged to work with party leaders, members and other stakeholders in Nigeria and the diaspora.
He said his appointment was based on a commitment to service and promised that the campaign council would work throughout the electoral period to support the party’s candidates.
“My new position as the APC UK Director-General of the newly constituted campaign council is rooted in service to the party, to the members and to the people,” Adesua said.
He further pledged that the council would work from the commencement of its activities through the conclusion of the 2027 election in pursuit of victory for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
“I want to assure you that from today until the 2027 election is concluded, we will work diligently to ensure victory for President Tinubu and all other candidates of our party across the country,” he stated.
The creation of the campaign council gives APC UK a formal structure through which it intends to coordinate its political activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
Its stated responsibilities cover several areas, including diaspora engagement, campaign coordination and mobilisation of support. The chapter also intends to work with the party’s structures in Nigeria to take its campaign message to voters and supporters.
The inauguration comes as political parties and their support structures begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections. For APC UK, the immediate focus is on establishing an organised campaign framework capable of coordinating members and supporters in the United Kingdom while maintaining links with the party’s structures in Nigeria.
The campaign council is expected to determine additional roles and responsibilities at its next meeting, completing the structure inaugurated at the weekend.
With Adesua serving as Director-General and Ajayi as Secretary, the council now has its principal leadership in place to begin the mobilisation and coordination activities outlined by the APC UK leadership.
The chapter has made clear that its objective is not only to support Tinubu’s re-election campaign but also to contribute to the electoral prospects of APC candidates contesting positions across Nigeria.
APC UK said the council would therefore operate as a platform for strategic diaspora engagement and campaign coordination while working alongside party leaders and stakeholders on the ground in Nigeria.
The party chapter has expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated team and its ability to deliver on the mandate given to it. However, the projected victory for Tinubu and other APC candidates remains the party’s campaign objective rather than an established electoral outcome ahead of the 2027 elections.
For Adesua, the task is now to translate the council’s mandate into sustained mobilisation and engagement as the party prepares for the election.
The Director-General said he would work with stakeholders across Nigeria and the diaspora, maintaining that the campaign council would remain focused on its stated objective of securing support for Tinubu and APC candidates when Nigerians go to the polls in 2027.
