The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a purported statement announcing the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables, warning recruitment candidates not to act on the information.
The statement, which circulated widely on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, claimed that Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu had directed the Department of Training and Development to begin arrangements for the recruits’ training.
It also directed successful candidates to check the police recruitment portal from Monday, September 14, 2026, for details of their training institutions and resumption dates.
The document carried the Nigeria Police Force letterhead and the name of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
But the Force said on Friday that the document was forged and had not been issued or authorised by any of its organs.
“The document is false and was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force,” the Force said in a disclaimer.
It urged members of the public, particularly police recruitment candidates, to disregard the purported announcement and rely exclusively on the official recruitment portal and verified NPF communication channels for updates.
The fake statement also purportedly quoted Disu as thanking President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
The police said they had begun efforts to identify those responsible for producing and circulating the document.
“The Force is currently on the trail of the persons responsible for generating and circulating the false document and will take appropriate legal action against those found culpable,” it said.
