ABEOKUTA, Nigeria — The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, insisting that the ruling has no legal merit and will not affect the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s Ogun State Chairman, Hon. Femi Alao, the NDC described the court’s decision as legally unfounded and maintained that it remains committed to participating in all elective contests during the next general election.
Alao said the party had already completed key stages of its nomination process, noting that all candidates seeking elective offices across Ogun State had submitted their nomination forms in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
He added that the completed documents would be uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal in line with the electoral timetable.
“The party strongly condemns the judgment delivered by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, describing it as lacking any legal basis or merit,” Alao said.
He urged party members, supporters and the public not to be discouraged by the ruling, expressing confidence that the judgment would not survive further legal scrutiny.
According to him, the party’s legal team is reviewing the court’s decision and remains optimistic that the outcome will be overturned through the appropriate judicial process.
The Ogun NDC chairman reiterated that the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections remain on course, stressing that the judgment would not derail its political activities or electoral ambitions.
He reaffirmed the party’s determination to field candidates for all elective positions and continue its campaign activities ahead of the next general election.
