Nashville airport to be renamed after Dolly Parton

Nashville International Airport in Tennessee is set to be renamed in honour of country music icon Dolly Parton, who died last month at the age of 80.

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) voted unanimously, 6-0, on Friday to honour Parton by changing the name of the airport.

The authority said the final name had not yet been decided, as officials were working on how best to incorporate Parton’s name and legacy into the airport’s new identity.

“While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated,” the MNAA said.

Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer.

The move will give one of Tennessee’s most recognisable cultural figures a lasting association with Nashville, widely known as a centre of country music.
