Ghana Police Arrest Three Nigerians Over Bank Customer Robberies

Ghanaian police have arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of targeting bank customers and stealing cash in Kumasi and surrounding areas, while a fourth alleged member of the gang remains at large.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command identified the arrested suspects as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35, in a statement signed by its Public Affairs Unit head, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Police said an intelligence-led operation involving personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate led to the arrest of Promise and Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo on October 31.

A search of their rooms reportedly yielded GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles.

According to the police, the suspects identified two alleged accomplices during interrogation: Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC. They subsequently led officers to another hotel in Dechemso, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu remains at large.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicated that the suspected gang monitored bank premises, followed customers who withdrew large sums of money and robbed them. The suspects also allegedly used a master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal cash.

The police said the three arrested men admitted to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also allegedly confessed to similar robberies at the At-onsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations in Kumasi and its environs.

The suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.

Police appealed to the public to provide credible information that could lead to Chinedu’s arrest. Anyone with information was urged to contact the nearest police station or call 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The command also advised bank customers to watch for suspicious individuals around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or valuables unattended in vehicles.
