Oyo Police Arrest Two as Killing of Ibadan Man Sparks Olodo Unrest

The killing of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu in Ibadan has led to two arrests and heightened security in Olodo after unrest broke out at a police outpost following the incident.

The Oyo State Police Command said Asimiyu was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by Taiwo Babarinde during an altercation at Olodo Garage on November 1, 2026. A second suspect, Ishola Semiu, was arrested over alleged involvement in the incident.

Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said the victim’s family learnt of the attack after an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence to report it.

Asimiyu was taken to Academy Hospital, Texaco, on Iwo Road, where a doctor confirmed his death. His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation.

Both suspects are in custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further investigation.

The incident was followed by unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost and reports of threats by hoodlums, prompting the command to deploy additional security personnel alongside the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The police said the deployment helped restore normalcy and that security personnel would remain in the area to prevent further disturbances.

The Area Commander in Moniya also met with local council representatives, motorcycle and tricycle operators, and youth leaders to address tensions and strengthen cooperation with security agencies.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga urged residents to remain calm and resolve disagreements through dialogue, warning that attempts to incite violence or disrupt public peace would not be tolerated.
