Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has reunited with Colombian singer Shakira as preparations intensify for the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final.
The Grammy-winning artiste shared a behind-the-scenes video on his X account showing the pair greeting each other warmly during rehearsals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Sunday’s World Cup final will be staged. The footage captured Burna Boy and Shakira exchanging hugs, smiles and conversation outside the production area ahead of the landmark performance.
Accompanying the video, Burna Boy wrote: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!”
The two global music stars are set to headline the inaugural World Cup final halftime show with a performance of “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The entertainment segment marks a significant departure from FIFA’s traditional final format, introducing a Super Bowl-style halftime spectacle for the first time in the tournament’s history. Broadcast plans indicate the interval will be extended beyond the customary 15 minutes to accommodate the production, with the performance expected to last about 11 minutes alongside regular match analysis.
FIFA has announced that the show will feature an international lineup of performers, including BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, acclaimed conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus alongside Coldplay, as well as special appearances by characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
Beyond entertainment, the halftime production is expected to promote global education initiatives aimed at improving opportunities for children worldwide.
Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final will see Spain take on Argentina at MetLife Stadium, with Burna Boy and Shakira returning to the global stage after previously debuting “Dai Dai” during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, where the song was unveiled as the official anthem of the 2026 World Cup.
