The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the electoral chances of opposition figures Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Donald Duke and Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that none can match President Bola Tinubu’s record in office.
The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, made the claim on Thursday while receiving members of the Forum of APC House of Representatives Aspirants at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Yilwatda said the APC believed Tinubu had a stronger record than other contenders, particularly in institution-building and infrastructure development.
“No political party, as it stands today, has a more credible candidate than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said, adding that comparisons of the candidates’ records would favour the incumbent.
The APC chairman also challenged the opposition to identify roads constructed with the N300 billion budget he referenced from the period when Olusegun Obasanjo was president and Atiku Abubakar served in his administration.
He said he could not identify a 500-kilometre stretch of road built with the funds, contrasting that with what he described as roads constructed across the country under Tinubu’s administration in three years.
Yilwatda’s remarks were part of the APC’s defence of Tinubu’s performance as political parties prepare for the 2027 election.
The four opposition figures named by the APC chairman are associated with the African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peoples Redemption Party and Allied People’s Movement, respectively.
