Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has dismissed allegations that his administration failed to respond to killings in Ayilamo community, Logo Local Government Area, describing the accusation as unfair and politically motivated.
Alia’s position was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, in response to comments attributed to Terver Akase, media consultant to the PDP governorship candidate.
The governor accused the opposition of attempting to exploit insecurity for political advantage ahead of the 2027 elections, saying criticism of government is legitimate but should be based on facts and a fair assessment of its record.
He said the administration would not allow political attacks to divert its attention from its development agenda.
Alia also turned the criticism toward the previous PDP administration led by former Governor Samuel Ortom, questioning why killings persisted during that period despite the enactment of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law.
The governor further criticised the PDP over its handling of local government finances, accusing the party of previously operating the joint account system it now opposes.
He specifically accused Aondoakaa of failing to support local government autonomy when, according to him, his political godfather opposed the measure.
“Aondoakaa’s attitude is double standard,” Alia said.
The governor said the 2027 election would ultimately be determined by voters rather than political statements or campaign rhetoric.
Alia expressed confidence that his administration’s record would withstand scrutiny at the polls and urged residents to disregard what he described as false claims by the opposition.
