Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has urged Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, arguing that voters should compare the party’s performance with that of previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administrations before choosing their leaders.
Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, spoke at the inauguration of the party’s campaign council at its state headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State.
He said voters should assess the records of past PDP governments against the performance of the current administration before deciding how to vote.
“I believe Nigerians have learnt from their mistakes. Therefore, they must critically examine the achievements of previous administrations under the PDP and compare them with those of the current administration before deciding who should lead them,” he said.
Lamido accused the APC-led government of failing to meet public expectations and said Jigawa and Nigeria needed experienced leaders to address their challenges.
He cited healthcare and education as areas of concern in Jigawa, alleging that hospitals lacked adequate medical services and essential drugs while the education sector continued to deteriorate.
The former governor also defended the PDP’s place in Nigeria’s political history, describing it as a party that had endured despite changes in the country’s political landscape.
“Since 1999, almost all political parties have collapsed, leaving the PDP as the only surviving party to date,” he said.
Lamido said the PDP was prepared to campaign for its candidates at all levels, from the presidency to the state assemblies. He pledged that the party’s campaigns would be peaceful and avoid insults, intimidation and personal attacks.
He said the party’s objective was to promote good governance and restore public confidence in leadership.
