2027: Wike Says He’ll Resign If Tinubu Loses FCT, Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

He said his continued stay in the Federal Executive Council would depend on his ability to deliver electoral support for Tinubu in the FCT, where he serves as minister, and Rivers State, his home state.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.

He added that he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, if Tinubu failed to win both territories.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he said.

Wike also disclosed plans for a multi-party coalition in the FCT ahead of the election, saying the arrangement would support candidates across different elective positions.

He endorsed Tinubu for the presidency and former FCT Senator Philip Aduda for the Senate, while identifying two former area council chairmen as the candidates being backed for the House of Representatives.

“In the FCT, we are running a unified coalition across parties to deliver results,” Wike said.

The declaration came during discussions with Apo mechanics and traders amid efforts by the FCT Administration to address their long-running relocation and land-allocation issues.
