Nigerian military aircraft have destroyed terrorist structures and logistics facilities during an air interdiction operation in Tumbunma Baba, in the Tumbuns area of Borno State.
The operation, conducted at about 6:05 a.m. on Friday, September 11, reportedly neutralised approximately 18 terrorists operating from the enclave.
Counter-terrorism analyst Zagzola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X, saying the strikes followed intelligence indicating that a high-profile terrorist meeting was taking place on the islands.
Makama said surveillance and reconnaissance missions conducted on September 9 identified several terrorist structures and logistics hubs in the area.
Following confirmation of the intelligence, the military aircraft engaged the identified targets with onboard munitions, destroying several structures and logistics facilities.
Makama estimated the operation’s success rate at about 85 per cent and recommended further air interdiction missions to consolidate the gains and target surviving terrorist elements.
He said the operation formed part of sustained military efforts to weaken terrorist networks, destroy their logistics infrastructure and restrict their movement and coordination within the Tumbuns.
