GUSAU — Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Atiku as the 21st Emir of Zurmi, following the death of the previous monarch, Alhaji Bello Suleiman.
The appointment was announced on Monday by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada.
Nakwada said the decision followed consultations and a recommendation from the kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council. He added that the process was conducted in line with the customs and traditions of the emirate as well as applicable state laws.
Aminu Atiku, who previously held the title of Dangaladiman Zurmi, succeeds Bello Suleiman, who died on August 31, 2026.
The new monarch also comes from a prominent royal lineage. He is the eldest son of the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who served as the 19th Emir of Zurmi.
Governor Charges New Emir on Peace and Unity
Governor Lawal congratulated Aminu Atiku on his appointment and urged him to build on the accomplishments of previous rulers of the emirate.
The governor also tasked the new Emir with promoting peace and justice across Zurmi, while working to strengthen unity among residents.
Lawal further urged the monarch to make the welfare of people within the emirate a priority as he assumes responsibility for the traditional institution.
The appointment brings a new monarch to the Zurmi Emirate following the transition occasioned by the death of Bello Suleiman, with the new Emir expected to begin his tenure by carrying forward the institution’s established traditions and responsibilities.
