Police Arrest Alleged Cult Leader Linked to Polytechnic Student Killing in Ondo
Police authorities in Ondo State have confirmed the arrest of a suspected cult leader believed to be connected to violent activities and a student killing in Owo, raising fresh concerns about cult-related violence in tertiary institutions across the state.
The suspect, identified as Akinwale Tomiwa, popularly known by the alias “Bella,” was apprehended by officers of the Nigeria Police Force following intelligence-led operations carried out by the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad.
Police officials described Tomiwa as a notorious cult leader allegedly responsible for coordinating activities of the Eiye Confraternity operating around Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and nearby communities.
Authorities say he had been on the police wanted list before his arrest.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest in an official statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, officers acted on credible intelligence indicating that the suspect had been spotted in Akure.

Once the information was verified, operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad were deployed to the location.
