The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over recent killings in the state and called for stronger action to protect residents.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, on Saturday, the party said the renewed violence showed the need for the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further deaths.
The statement followed a Friday shooting in Osogbo in which two people were killed and four others sustained gunshot injuries. The police said the incident was suspected to have involved cult groups.
The APC called on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to take steps to address what it described as extra-judicial killings and urged security agencies to strengthen measures to protect lives and property.
The party said repeated reports of violence were affecting the state’s image and expressed sympathy to residents over the killings.
The police said one of the deceased was identified as “Small Rugged”, while the identity of the second victim was yet to be established. The four injured victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Osun Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura has directed tactical teams to move into the area and apprehend those responsible for the attack, according to police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi.
The APC also urged the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further killings and ensure the safety of residents.
