Former Deputy President of the Senate and NDC Delta Central Senatorial candidate Ovie Omo-Agege has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
In a statement dated September 26, 2026, Omo-Agege said Adeda went to work at the ministry and did not return home. He described the circumstances surrounding his death as “a death that demands answers.”
According to the statement, police authorities have confirmed an incident at the ministry in Asaba and opened a homicide investigation following Adeda’s death on September 25.
Omo-Agege said three people — Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh — had been named in connection with allegations that Adeda was assaulted. He said Lucky Adoh was already in custody and called for the other two individuals to be found.
The former senator cautioned against reaching conclusions before the investigation establishes the exact cause of death.
“We’re not going to jump ahead of the investigation. We still need to establish the exact cause of death, and we owe it to Adeda’s memory to ensure we get it right instead of just getting it done quickly,” he said.
Omo-Agege commended the police for responding to the incident and urged them to ensure that the investigation remains thorough, swift and free from external pressure.
He also called on the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, to step aside while the investigation continues, arguing that the incident occurred in his office.
“We believe Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu should step aside while the investigations are ongoing. The incident occurred in his office, and while he claims he did nothing wrong, stepping aside isn’t an admission of guilt — it’s essential for maintaining trust in the process,” he said.
Omo-Agege further demanded that the findings of the Administrative Panel established over the incident and the outcome of the police investigation be made public.
He urged authorities to ensure that anyone found responsible faces prosecution, saying the case should not be allowed to fade without accountability.
Omo-Agege also expressed condolences to Adeda’s family and said he would continue to seek answers over the circumstances surrounding the death.
