A Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, over allegations surrounding the rape and subsequent death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.
Ogbonna was remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre after the court on Friday, September 4, 2026, granted an application seeking his continued detention in connection with the case.
The development followed the conclusion of investigations into the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death and the alleged sexual assault involving the content creator.
Counsel representing Favour’s family, Awele Ideal, confirmed the court’s decision in a statement issued on Friday, saying the remand application had been heard and granted.
According to Ideal, Ogbonna will remain in custody at the correctional facility and will subsequently be brought before the court as proceedings continue.
Autopsy, Toxicology Results Added to Investigation
Ideal also disclosed that the autopsy and toxicology examination results relating to Favour had been made available to the police investigation team.
She said the results, alongside other evidence collected during the investigation, had been incorporated into the report prepared for the prosecution and eventual trial.
“Today the 4/9/2026, The application to remand Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna (Odogwu Asaba) was heard and granted by the Court. He has now been Remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Maximum Correctional Center (Prison), from there he shall be brought to court until the completion of his trial which now lies with the Ministry of Justice (AG and DPP),” Ideal said.
The inclusion of the autopsy and toxicology findings marks an important development in the investigation because the examinations were conducted as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death.
The lawyer said the evidence gathered by investigators would now form part of the material available for prosecution as the matter moves toward trial.
Family Lawyer Promises Continued Support
Ideal said she was representing Favour’s family on a pro bono basis and would continue providing legal and financial assistance to ensure that the case receives the necessary attention.
“I still hold the brief of this case for late Favour’s family on Probono basis rendering my legal services and financial support to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” she said.
She also promised to continue providing updates as the legal process progresses.
“Justice is everyone’s business,” Ideal said.
The development was separately confirmed by Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Media.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Ossai announced that Ogbonna had been taken to the correctional facility following the court’s decision.
“Court Remands Ifeanyi Ogbonna, ‘Odogwu Asaba,’ Over Late Favour’s Case,” he wrote.
Ossai also linked the remand to the release of the autopsy and toxicology results to the police investigation team, saying those findings and other evidence had been incorporated into the report prepared for prosecution and trial.
How the Case Began
The case attracted public attention after allegations emerged that Favour had travelled to Asaba following an invitation from Ogbonna for a content creation training programme advertised on social media.
According to reports surrounding the case, Favour was subsequently taken to a hotel, where Ogbonna allegedly raped and assaulted her.
After returning home, Favour reportedly told her parents about what she claimed had happened.
She also made a video in which she spoke about her alleged encounter with the content creator before her death.
The allegations became the subject of a police investigation after Favour’s family submitted a petition concerning the circumstances surrounding the incident and her subsequent death.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the petition from Favour’s family, the Delta State Commissioner of Police directed the Effurun Area Command to investigate the matter.
The investigation eventually led to Ogbonna’s arrest as police sought to establish what happened to Favour and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The police investigation included autopsy and toxicology examinations. Favour reportedly died after ingesting a toxic substance, making the toxicology findings part of the evidence considered by investigators.
The results were subsequently made available to the police investigation team and incorporated into the investigation report alongside other evidence gathered during the inquiry.
With the investigation now concluded, the case has moved toward the prosecution stage.
Case Moves to Ministry of Justice
The remand order means Ogbonna will remain in custody while the legal process continues.
Ideal said the case now lies with the Ministry of Justice, specifically through the Attorney-General and Director of Public Prosecutions, for the next phase of the proceedings.
The accused is expected to be brought before the court as the case progresses, while the prosecution considers the investigation report and evidence assembled by the police.
The development represents a shift from the investigative phase, which involved Ogbonna’s arrest, evidence gathering and forensic examinations, to the judicial process where the allegations will be tested before the court.
The autopsy and toxicology results, together with the other evidence referenced by the family’s counsel and the governor’s media aide, are now part of the material prepared for prosecution.
Ogbonna Remains Presumed Innocent
The allegations against Ogbonna remain allegations and have not been established as facts by a court.
