The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks following a strong turnout from Nigerian applicants.
The exercise, initially scheduled to end on September 19, will now continue in London and Manchester until October 3, 2026.
NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, announced the extension in a statement on Friday, saying 1,477 Nigerians had been processed and enrolled within the first four days.
More than half of those enrolled had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses, the Service said.
The NIS said the intervention had progressed smoothly at the two centres despite challenges encountered on the opening day.
It said eligible applicants must book appointments through the website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the UK and present their completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
The Service reiterated that passport applications and payments are fully automated and cashless.
It said the applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year booklet, adding that applicants would not be required to pay any additional fee for the intervention exercise.
The extension was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to create additional capacity and accommodate more eligible applicants.
The NIS said further details on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures would be released through its official channels and that of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.
The Service also thanked Nigerians in the UK for their patience and cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to providing efficient and transparent passport services.
