WASHINGTON — The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has unconditionally cleared Elon Musk’s proposed acquisition of Mesh Optical Technologies, wrapping up its antitrust review at lightning speed and signaling zero regulatory pushback.

First spotted in an FTC filing and reported by Bloomberg, the acquisition will fold a high-profile hardware startup into Musk’s expanding tech empire. Financial terms of the transaction remain strictly under wraps.

From Starlink to Terrestrial Data Centers

Mesh Optical Technologies is a hyper-focused startup founded in 2025 by three standout ex-SpaceX engineers. The trio previously spearheaded the development of the cutting-edge, laser-based inter-satellite communication links that allow thousands of Starlink satellites to beam data to one another in low-Earth orbit.
