Applicants seeking evaluation and authentication of academic certificates from the Federal Ministry of Education will no longer need to appear physically at the ministry, following the Federal Government’s introduction of a fully digital process for the service.
The new arrangement, announced by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, allows applicants in Nigeria and abroad to submit and complete their credential evaluation and authentication requests through an online platform. The reform is intended to remove delays associated with the previous process and make access to the service more convenient.
Education Minister, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, linked the development to the Federal Government’s wider digital transformation programme under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said automating the service would help cut bureaucratic delays while reinforcing the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s academic certification system.
Beyond serving individual applicants, the digital platform is expected to improve how academic qualifications are verified by institutions, employers and other stakeholders. The ministry said the system provides a more structured mechanism for authentication and evaluation, supporting greater efficiency in the handling of academic credentials.
The ministry described the move as part of its broader effort to modernise education governance and provide services that are more accessible and responsive to citizens. The online arrangement also removes the need for applicants living outside Nigeria to travel to the ministry solely for credential verification.
