Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made a return to the club’s training complex at Valdebebas as he used a short break from his duties with the Brazil national team to reconnect with his former side.
Ancelotti, who currently serves as head coach of Brazil, visited Real Madrid’s training session ahead of the club’s LaLiga meeting with Real Betis on Saturday. The return gave the Italian an opportunity to meet several familiar faces and spend time around a squad he previously managed.
During his visit, Ancelotti reunited with former players and members of the Real Madrid setup, while paying particular attention to the fitness of the club’s Brazilian players. His interest in the condition of those players comes as Brazil prepare for their upcoming international fixtures.
The former Madrid boss also took photographs with a large number of the current squad, including the club’s present manager, Jose Mourinho. He was also pictured with some of Real Madrid’s newer additions, among them Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella.
Ancelotti’s visit provided a reunion with a club where he previously spent time working with many of the players and established close relationships within the squad. Rather than a formal return to his former role, the Italian was taking advantage of a few days away from his responsibilities with Brazil to attend a training session at his old club.
He spent time speaking with former players and also held conversations with Mourinho during the visit. The meeting brought together two managers who have both occupied the Real Madrid dugout, although Mourinho is currently responsible for preparing the team for its next LaLiga fixture.
For Ancelotti, the visit also offered an opportunity to assess the condition of Brazil’s players at Real Madrid ahead of the next international window. The Brazilian coach is expected to announce his squad for the country’s upcoming matches next week.
His return to Valdebebas therefore combined a personal reunion with preparations connected to his current international responsibilities. After spending time with his former colleagues and players, Ancelotti will return his focus to Brazil as he prepares to select the squad for the team’s next fixtures.
The visit also allowed the Italian to meet some of the players who joined Real Madrid after his previous spell at the club, including Dumfries and Cucurella. His photographs with the squad captured a brief reunion between the former manager and a team that has since undergone changes.
With Real Madrid preparing for their Saturday clash with Real Betis, Mourinho and his players will now concentrate on the LaLiga fixture, while Ancelotti looks ahead to the announcement of his next Brazil squad.
