Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has tasked the APC’s newly inaugurated campaign council with securing the party’s strongest state-level vote total in the 2027 elections, while directing members to focus their campaign on governance and policy rather than personal attacks.
The governor issued the challenge on Thursday at the inauguration of the management team for the party’s presidential and gubernatorial campaign council in Kano, placing the state at the centre of the APC’s mobilisation efforts for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Yusuf said the party must demonstrate its achievements, explain its future plans and respond to voters’ concerns instead of relying on insults.
“We are going to campaign based on what the APC leaders have done, not campaign full of insults,” he said.
He urged council members to carry out their assignments with commitment and resist intimidation from opposition parties. He also appealed to party supporters left out of the initial appointments to remain engaged, saying additional lists and subcommittees would be announced.
The council’s leadership includes Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo as Director-General and Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa as First Deputy Director-General.
Yunusa Adamu Dangwani was named Deputy Director-General for Kano South, while Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda and Senator Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura will oversee the Kano North and Kano Central zones, respectively.
Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure was appointed Assistant Director-General for Women Affairs, and Garba Yusuf Abubakar will serve as Assistant Director-General for Operations.
The inauguration was attended by party stakeholders, including Senators Kawu Sumaila and Barau Jibrin, as the APC begins organising its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general election.
