Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has named Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice the Premier League’s most effective player following his contribution to Arsenal’s 2–1 comeback win over Leeds United.
Arsenal came from behind to win at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, October 10, after Leeds took the lead through James Justin in the 55th minute.
Riccardo Calafiori equalised for the hosts in the 62nd minute before substitute Bruno Guimarães scored the winner in the 70th minute.
Rice, who returned to Arsenal after missing England’s international fixtures, assisted Guimarães’ goal with a backheel pass that set up the Brazilian midfielder’s finish.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Hoddle praised Rice’s ability to contribute both defensively and in attack.
“That’s the beauty of Rice,” Hoddle said. “One minute he’s blocking the ball on the line or the edge of the box, saving the day defensively, the next he can come up with a bit of skill when he’s released and allowed to go play a little bit with more freedom.”
Hoddle also highlighted a moment when Rice used a feint near the byline before cutting inside and nearly scoring.
“For me, he’s the most effective player in the PL, he can do anything, he can play anywhere and he will give you a 9/10 every week. He is a very good player,” he added.
