Three women were killed and another person injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Monday.
The attackers reportedly arrived at the site around 4:30pm and opened fire on workers before fleeing.
The incident was confirmed by Rwang Tengwong, spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, who said the victims were among those working at the mining site.
A community member, John Silas, also confirmed the attack, putting the time at about 4pm. He said three women died while another person sustained injuries.
Tengwong called on security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack, expressing concern about the safety of people living and working in the area.
Silas similarly urged security authorities to intensify efforts to track the attackers and prevent further attacks, saying residents should be able to carry out their legitimate activities without fear.
