Gbajabiamila says Police, DSS, ICPC cleared him of allegations

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said investigations by security and anti-corruption agencies cleared him of wrongdoing over allegations linked to his office.

Gbajabiamila spoke on Saturday at the 2026 Gbaja Mega Empowerment programme in Lagos, where about 5,000 residents of his Surulere constituency received various forms of support.

Reflecting on the allegations, he said the period of scrutiny tested him personally but that investigations by the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission found no wrongdoing.

“At the end of all the investigations, the Nigerian Police, the DSS, the ICPC cleared me of any wrongdoing, and the investigative reports are in the public domain,” he said.

The allegations followed investigations into the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Gbajabiamila appeared before the ICPC in July 2026 as part of the investigation.

The ICPC subsequently reported that it found no evidence linking Gbajabiamila or his office to the purported organisation or the appointment of its alleged director-general.

Gbajabiamila thanked President Tinubu for allowing the investigations to run their course instead of acting on the allegations before the process was completed.

“I must thank my principal, President Bola Tinubu. Many people wanted him to rush to judgment and give a verdict before the investigation. He refused and insisted on due process,” he said.

He also warned people using his name to defraud members of the public, saying such conduct would be dealt with under the law.

The Chief of Staff said the experience would not distract him from his responsibilities, adding that public office could come with personal sacrifices and scrutiny.

At the empowerment programme, Gbajabiamila said the initiative was worth about N1.15 billion and included cash grants, vehicles, equipment and other support for beneficiaries.

He said 3,905 beneficiaries received N250,000 each, while another 348 received N500,000 each.

The programme also provided 61 electric vehicles, 50 electric tricycles, 60 minibuses and 100 laptops, alongside four Toyota HiAce buses, two security patrol vehicles, a medical ambulance and two other vehicles.

Gbajabiamila said the event was postponed from June to allow organisers to verify submissions from wards, community associations and trade groups to ensure the items reached the intended beneficiaries.

He also highlighted the Gajarai transportation service, which provides free transportation for students and discounted services for elderly residents.

According to him, the inclusion of electric vehicles was intended to support cleaner transportation and create business opportunities, with plans also announced for electric vehicle charging stations.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who attended the event, said the APC remained focused on maintaining contact with citizens and addressing their needs at the grassroots.

Hamzat said political engagement should extend beyond elections and involve continued interaction between elected officials and the people.
