ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has temporarily shut down its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) following technical difficulties with the platform’s hosting arrangements.
The disruption comes during the ongoing admission exercise into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, leaving institutions and candidates unable to access the system for admission-related activities.
JAMB’s Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said on Thursday that the board was working with the organisation hosting CAPS to establish the cause of the problem and restore the platform.
CAPS serves as the central system through which tertiary institutions process admissions and candidates monitor their admission status.
Benjamin said the board was aware of the timing of the disruption and its potential effect on institutions, candidates and other stakeholders involved in the admission exercise.
“The Board is particularly conscious of the timing of this disruption, given that CAPS is the central platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions across the country are processed,” JAMB said.
The board said it decided to issue the update to prevent speculation over the cause of the outage while efforts were underway to resolve the technical problem.
JAMB assured candidates and institutions that it was working with the hosting organisation to return CAPS to full operation within the shortest possible time.
It apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and urged candidates, institutions and other users to remain patient while the restoration process continues.
The board also said it would examine the circumstances surrounding the outage after the platform is restored.
According to JAMB, the review would focus on measures to prevent a recurrence, given CAPS’s role in maintaining a coordinated admissions process.
The board said further updates would be issued as work to restore the platform progresses.
