Insecurity: How Tinubu ensured capture of most wanted terrorist, Mamuda without gunshots – FG

ABUJA — The Federal Government has attributed the recent capture of suspected terrorist leader Mamuda and his Chief of Staff to improved coordination between Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies under President Bola Tinubu.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the two suspects were captured without a gunshot and are now facing legal proceedings.

Idris made the disclosure on Thursday during a ministerial briefing on preparations for Nigeria’s 66th Independence celebration.

He said the operation reflected improved collaboration between the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies in tackling terrorism and other criminal activities.

“During the time of Tinubu, we have seen greater coordination between security agencies and this has led to the capture of one of the world’s most wanted terrorist, the so-called Mamuda and his Chief of Staff,” Idris said.

“Today, Mamuda and his Chief of Staff are having their day in court.”

The minister said the suspects had attracted international attention, noting that countries including the United States had placed bounties on their capture.

According to him, their arrest without an exchange of gunfire demonstrated the level of coordination between the country’s security and intelligence structures.

Idris, however, acknowledged that the Tinubu administration had not completely resolved Nigeria’s security challenges since assuming office in 2023.

He said there had nevertheless been progress, citing improved movement between Kaduna and Abuja as an example of changes in the security situation.

“Does it mean that we have solved all the security challenges in this country, no but there is so much work in progress,” he said.

The minister said Tinubu had also approved funding for additional platforms and equipment for the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

He further said the administration had approved improved salaries and welfare for members of the Armed Forces, describing the measures as a morale boost for security personnel.

Idris said the government would continue to strengthen the capacity of security agencies as efforts to address insecurity continue.
