City Boy Movement Mobilises Anambra Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

The City Boy Movement has taken its campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election to Anambra State, with its leaders urging residents to consider continued cooperation with the Federal Government ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group made the appeal at a town hall meeting at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, where speakers focused on federal projects, youth programmes and other initiatives they said demonstrated the importance of Anambra maintaining a relationship with the centre.

The meeting, themed “Can Anambra Afford to Be Disconnected from the Centre?”, featured the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, as keynote speaker.

Nnake said the state stood to benefit from supporting Tinubu’s return to office, urging residents to view the 2027 election in terms of Anambra’s relationship with the Federal Government.

She said supporting the President would encourage the continuation of policies that, in her view, could bring further development to the state.

The movement’s South-East Coordinator, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, similarly appealed to Anambra residents to support Tinubu.

Iyiegbu said he believed the administration was working for Nigerians despite the level of support Tinubu received from Anambra in the previous election.

He also said he would personally take responsibility if the President failed to deliver development to the state after receiving its support in 2027.

The movement’s Director-General, Tosin Shoga, acknowledged that some Federal Government policies had created difficulties for citizens but maintained that the measures were aimed at producing longer-term economic benefits.

He pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, infrastructure projects and appointments of Anambra indigenes to federal positions as reasons he said residents should continue supporting the administration.

The state coordinator of the movement, Enzo Uzor Nzeribe, also highlighted federal interventions as part of the group’s case for supporting Tinubu.

Nzeribe cited NELFUND, digital skills programmes, social intervention schemes and federal road projects. He specifically mentioned the Onitsha-Enugu and Port Harcourt-Enugu expressways as projects receiving Federal Government attention.

He also referenced the recently announced salary increase for members of the Armed Forces, saying it would improve the welfare of security personnel.

According to Nzeribe, the movement’s activities were focused not only on political mobilisation but also on youth empowerment, skills development and initiatives aimed at promoting self-reliance.

He further identified proposed and ongoing reforms, including state police, additional military formations and local government autonomy, which he said could improve governance at the grassroots.

Earlier, the movement’s state Director, Sir Nonso Ozoemena, urged residents to set aside emotions and consider supporting Tinubu for another term.

Ozoemena said Anambra’s economic importance made its relationship with the Federal Government significant.

The movement’s state Women Leader, Mrs Adaora Soludo, called on women to support Tinubu, saying the President meant well for the country.

Nzeribe said the City Boy Movement was established to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda, empower young people and engage Anambra residents on issues concerning national development.

The mobilisation comes about a month after another pro-Tinubu group, Relax Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria, led by Chief John Bosco Onunkwo, held a grassroots programme in Anambra.

The Awka event was attended by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Esther Onyekesi; Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, Chief of Staff to the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement; A-Big Nwankwo; and a National Youth Council of Nigeria delegation led by its chairman, Barrister Nonso Nwaebili.

Youths from the All Progressives Grand Alliance and other groups also participated in the programme, which included a performance by the Unity Cultural Troupe and panel discussions on Anambra’s role in national development.
