The Nigerian Embassy in Qatar has reduced the processing time for passport renewals and new applications to about two weeks, following a 10-day consular intervention in Doha.
The mission said 751 Nigerians had their passport applications processed during the exercise held from August 11 to 21, 2026.
Of the applications handled, 441 were for five-year passports, while 310 were for 10-year passports.
Distribution of the completed documents began on September 18, less than a month after applicants underwent biometric capture.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the faster turnaround reflected the embassy’s effort to improve consular services for Nigerians living in the Gulf state.
“The fact that passports are now being completed and returned within about two weeks of capture demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and responding to the needs of our community,” Yakubu said.
He said access to valid passports was particularly important for Nigerians whose international travel, employment and residency arrangements depend on having valid travel documents.
The embassy said the intervention was organised in response to growing demand for passport services among Nigerians resident in Qatar.
The accelerated process is expected to reduce waiting periods for applicants and ease difficulties associated with expired or unavailable travel documents.
The mission said the commencement of distribution on September 18 marked the completion of the intervention for applicants who participated in the exercise.
It added that improving passport issuance and other consular services remained a priority in its engagement with the Nigerian community in Qatar.
