An aide and associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Dauda Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir”, has been shot dead in Osogbo amid a dispute over the leadership of a motor park.
Oyeyemi was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen on Sunday during a meeting at Mayfair Motor Park, where efforts were underway to resolve the leadership dispute.
The deceased had reportedly been seeking control of the park, which is currently headed by Wakili Nurudeen, popularly known as Alowonle.
Sources said masked gunmen entered the meeting venue and shot Oyeyemi in the head before fleeing.
The incident reportedly triggered panic among members of the two factions, who fled the area. A vehicle carrying some members of Oyeyemi’s group was also involved in an accident near Campus Gate while they were reportedly escaping.
Tension subsequently spread to Oyeyemi’s base in the Asoje area of Osogbo, where his associates were said to have gathered following news of the killing.
Some associates of the deceased accused the Alowonle faction of involvement in the attack, but the allegation had not been independently established as of press time.
Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the killing and called on security agencies to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible.
Rasheed urged authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were prosecuted.
