The Nigerian Army has denied reports that six Islamic scholars were abducted from the residence of former Zamfara State governor and Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The Army said the reports circulating across media platforms were misleading and that the abduction did not take place at Yari’s residence.
In a statement on Sunday, September 13, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, acting deputy director, Army public relations, 8 Division, said field intelligence indicated that the victims were travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara when they were seized.
Osoba described claims linking the incident to Yari’s residence as “entirely false.”
The Army did not confirm the number of people abducted or disclose the identities of those involved.
It said troops, working with other security agencies and local intelligence networks, had commenced efforts to locate and rescue the victims.
The military urged residents to remain calm and provide security agencies with credible information that could assist the rescue operation.
It also cautioned against circulating unverified or sensational reports, warning that such information could cause public panic and compromise ongoing tactical operations.
Yari, who represents Zamfara West in the Senate, is also the director-general of the All Progressives Congress 2027 presidential campaign council.
