The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouq Bahago, has called on corporate organisations to support traditional institutions, citing their role in maintaining peace, stability and development within communities.
Bahago made the call during the commissioning of the Palace of Mai-Anguwan Gidan Mangoro, built by the National Examinations Council (NECO), and the turbanning of its Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, as the Maji Dadin Gidan Mangoro.
Represented by Salisu Garba, the emir said the longstanding peaceful relationship between NECO and its host communities demonstrated the value of cooperation between institutions and traditional authorities.
He described the palace as a symbol of unity and cultural heritage, as well as a reflection of the role traditional institutions play in strengthening social cohesion.
Bahago said the project also demonstrated that development could be pursued while respecting established cultural institutions.
Wushishi said the project reflected NECO’s approach to corporate social responsibility beyond its core responsibilities of examinations, certification and educational quality assurance.
He said stable and peaceful communities were essential to the effective functioning of education systems, adding that NECO’s CSR initiatives were designed to support host communities and traditional leadership.
The registrar commended Gidan Mangoro for maintaining peace and maturity, saying the relationship had allowed the council to operate effectively without unnecessary disruption.
As part of its support for the communities, NECO also donated two transformers and motorised boreholes to Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako.
