Uganda’s King Oyo, who became world’s youngest reigning monarch at three, dies at 34

Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom is mourning the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the monarch who became internationally known after inheriting the throne at just three years old and was recognised as the world’s youngest reigning king. Oyo died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the age of 34, bringing an extraordinary 31-year reign to an end.
