The All Progressives Congress has begun organising its northern campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with party chairman Nentawe Yilwatda predicting that President Bola Tinubu could secure more than 70 per cent of the region’s votes.
Yilwatda made the projection on Saturday at the inauguration of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) campaign secretariat in Abuja, where he called on political leaders and residents across the North to support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket for another term.
He based his forecast on what he described as the administration’s investments in northern infrastructure and public services, including major road projects, railway development, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, irrigation dams, healthcare and student loans.
Yilwatda highlighted road construction linking several northern states, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route and the Kano-Maiduguri corridor. He argued that the scale of these projects demonstrated the administration’s attention to the region.
He also cited Vice President Kashim Shettima’s presence on the ticket as a reason for northern voters to support Tinubu, describing the administration as inclusive of different religious and ethnic groups.
The APC chairman said the party could achieve the projected vote share if supporters secured strong backing in their home communities and polling units.
Former Kebbi State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who heads A4A, said the administration’s infrastructure, education, social investment and security policies warranted another term.
Abubakar pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as an initiative intended to ease the financial burden of higher education. He also claimed that security conditions had improved in some parts of the North, allowing residents to return to farms and travel on roads they had previously avoided, while acknowledging that challenges remained.
A4A plans to coordinate its mobilisation through governors, legislators, traditional institutions and youth groups, with campaigns extending from state capitals to local governments, wards and polling units.
The group’s new headquarters consists of three blocks of three-storey buildings, including offices, a conference room and a situation room for coordinating campaign activities.
Both Yilwatda and Abubakar urged northern residents to support Tinubu’s re-election, presenting the administration’s record as the basis for their campaign ahead of the 2027 vote.
