55-Year-Old Motorist Escapes Injury as Train Smashes Honda Car in Lagos

A 55-year-old motorist escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos on Thursday evening.

The train was travelling towards Agege when it struck the vehicle, with registration number EKY 902 JT, leaving it extensively damaged. No casualties were reported.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside security personnel, rescued the driver and removed the wrecked car from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.

The incident caused significant traffic congestion around the PWD axis, disrupting movement along the corridor even after the obstruction was cleared.

LASTMA said the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for investigation into the cause of the collision.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift response of the operatives and security personnel, saying their coordinated efforts helped prevent more serious consequences.

He urged motorists to exercise caution at railway crossings and avoid attempting to cross when a train is approaching or already in motion.

Bakare-Oki warned that disregard for railway safety rules could lead to devastating consequences and called on road users to comply with traffic regulations to protect lives.
