Lagos Life, a Nigerian-made browser game built around everyday urban experiences, has attracted more than two million players since launching on October 1, 2026.
Its creator, Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, announced the milestone on October 6, alongside the addition of Abuja and Port Harcourt to the game.
The game initially focused on Lagos before expanding to the two other cities in response to players’ requests. Figures reported from its dashboard also showed more than 100,000 concurrent players, although the numbers have not been independently audited.
What is Lagos Life?
Lagos Life is a life-simulation game that allows players to create characters and navigate a virtual Nigerian environment. Its features include finding jobs, earning virtual naira, paying rent, socialising and visiting entertainment spots.
The game draws comparisons with The Sims but incorporates Nigerian settings and cultural references. Rayhamen has cited her childhood experience playing The Sims 3 and the browser game Lagos Run as inspirations for the project.
How to play Lagos Life
Players can access the game through a web browser on a phone or computer without downloading a large application or using a gaming console.
After entering the game, players create a character and begin managing their virtual lives.
The gameplay includes several activities:
- Choose a starting profile: Options such as “Nepo” and “Lapo” represent different starting financial circumstances.
- Find work: Players take jobs to earn virtual money and fund their lifestyles.
- Manage basic needs: Characters need food and energy, requiring players to balance work with rest and other activities.
- Pay rent: Players must manage their income and expenses to maintain their accommodation.
- Explore the cities: The virtual world features Nigerian-inspired locations and entertainment spots, including Amala Shitta and Quilox.
- Socialise: Players can meet and interact with others in the shared virtual environment.
- Build a better virtual life: Players can pursue jobs, improve their finances and explore opportunities within the game.
The addition of Abuja and Port Harcourt has expanded the locations available to players beyond Lagos.
Can players withdraw money from Lagos Life?
No. The naira earned in the game is virtual currency and cannot be withdrawn into a bank account or exchanged for real money.
Lagos Life is intended for entertainment, and its prices, institutions, events and scenarios may be fictionalised or simplified for gameplay.
Why is the game attracting attention?
Lagos Life combines browser-based access with settings and situations familiar to Nigerian players. Its focus on jobs, rent, money management, transport, entertainment and social interactions gives players a virtual version of everyday urban life.
Its rapid growth in the days after launch, followed by the expansion into Abuja and Port Harcourt, has brought increased attention to the project and its creator.
